Time has a crucial role to play when we speak of social cohesion, quality of life and sustainability. We know that time is enjoyed in different ways depending on such circumstances as the activity involved, age or gender, with the challenge being to ensure that the relationship between work and personal and family life is harmonious and well balanced, as well as placing people’s time, not just their work, at the heart of a new model of social articulation. This means that daily life and the city are scenarios that shape the link between people’s work and their domestic-family life, with time being the axis around which the lives of families revolve.
In recent years, Bilbao and Bizkaia have been undergoing major changes that have affected the population’s lifestyles and time management. The current context of economic crisis should help to usher in a new model of city based on economic, social and environmental sustainability designed to improve people’s quality of life.
Faced with this situation, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the City Council of Bilbao are supporting the creation of the denBBora network of agencies both in BILBAO and in BIZKAIA, consisting of firms and organisations that are committed to the achievement of better time management and the reconciliation of work and family and personal life.
Both these institutions, involved in processes of social innovation in the uses of time, propose to launch this Network to acknowledge the agencies pledged to this innovation and favour the sharing of knowledge and experiences between public and private companies and institutions, with the aim being to make decisions that benefit the agencies themselves, their customers, employees, and the society in which they pursue their operations.
